Sunday

  • Departure from the U.S. to Brazil.

Day Two
Monday - Rio de Janeiro

  • Arrive at Rio de Janeiro Airport.
  • Welcome by our representative and assistance with arrival formalities.
  • Transfer to your hotel and check in. Airport transfer included.
  • Relax, unpack and settle into hotel room.
  • Visit Pão de Açúcar, or Sugarloaf Mountain, named for its resemblance to a conical mass of refined loaf sugar - it towers over local beaches, a hunk of grey granite and quartz stone.
  • On your way to Sugarloaf Mountain, pass the famous beaches of Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon. Ride the cable car that runs along an almost 5,000 foot route between the peaks of Pão de Açúcar and Cara de Cão. Revel in the magnificent view and sunset over Corcovado, Guanabara Bay, Niteroi, the downtown area and the beaches.
  • Meet your Expedition Educator and fellow travelers at the sunset cocktail party on Urca Hill, overlooking Rio de Janeiro.
  • Welcome dinner at Porcao Rio's, the city's most famous barbeque restaurant that overlooks the bay and Sugarloaf Mountain.

Day Three
Tuesday - Rio de Janeiro
History, Carnival, Jewish Community

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Visit Praça XV or November 15th Square - named for the 1889 date when the Republic of Brazil was proclaimed.
  • Walk the halls of the former royal palace, the 18th century Paco Imperial, once home to Brazilian monarchy, now the National History Museum.
  • Become a bit of jewelry expert at the headquarters of H. Stern - enjoy an informative visual lesson about gemstones - from discovery and mining to being set in beautiful pieces of jewelry.
  • Lunch on your own at the lovely, Belle Époque-styled, Confeitaria Colombo café.
  • Da'at Encounter: Enjoy a personal tour through Cidade do Samba, Samba City, where the well-known Rio Carnival is worked on year-round. Dedicated artisans prepare costumes and floats for upcoming celebrations. See floats and dresses from past Carnivals and enjoy the atmosphere and excitement.
  • Return to your hotel.
  • Da'at Encounter: Personalities and communities dialogue with a representative of the Brazilian Jewish community.
  • Evening on your own - explore the city and its restaurants.

Day Four
Wednesday - Iguazú Falls, Argentina

  • Brazilian breakfast at the hotel. 
  • Check out of the hotel, and depart to the airport for your flight to Iguazú.
  • Arrive in Iguazú, Argentina, close to famed Iguazú Falls. 
  • Visit the falls: located on the border between Brazil and Argentina, the Iguazú Falls divide the Iguazú River, and stretch over a 1.67-mile area with 275 separate falls. Walk along the pathways and catwalks to the most ferocious part of falls - the aptly named Devil's Throat on the Brazilian side of the falls, soars 269 feet high and 2,300 feet long.
  • Cross the border to Argentina and transfer and check in to your hotel, located within the Iguazú National Park.
  • Dinner at your hotel.

Day Five
Thursday - Iguazú National Park

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Depart the hotel for Iguazú Falls and National Park.
  • Board the Rainforest Ecological Train, a gas-propelled train at the Main Station in the National Park to the upper falls circuit and the Argentine side of the Devil's Throat (Garganta del Diablo).
  • Walk along the Iguazú River Canyon, via the lower circuit and the upper circuit - get an up close and personal look at the flora and fauna of the sub-tropical jungle as well as the many falls of the Iguazú system.
  • Return to the hotel for dinner on your own.

Day Six
Friday - Buenos Aires

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Check out of the hotel and transfer to the airport.
  • Flight to Buenos Aires, Argentina.
  • Arrival in Buenos Aires, and transfer to the hotel.
  • Check into your hotel.
  • Enjoy a day at leisure - walk around the city, shop and relax.
  • Friday evening, Shabbat services (optional) at C.I.R.A, more commonly called The Libertad, Argentina's oldest synagogue. Revel in a unique, musical celebration of prayer, community and Shabbat, Argentine style.
  • Gaucho dinner at the famous El Campo, Argentinean steak restaurant.

Day Seven
Saturday - Buenos Aires

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Late morning walking tour of Recoleta Cemetery, where many influential and important Argentineans are buried. Visit the most famous grave, the Tomb of Maria Eva Duarte de Peron who is better known as Evita.
  • Afternoon at leisure.
  • Dinner and tango show at Esquina Carlos Gardel Theater, named after the legendary Argentinean singer, Carlos Gardel.

Day Eight
Sunday - Urban Sites of Buenos Aires

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Walk the European-styled Avenida de Mayo, connecting both the Plaza De Mayo where Casa Rosada, the Presidential Palace sits, and the Congressional Plaza. See the neo-classical façade of the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Cathedral and the charming, Moorish-influenced, Cabildo (first City Hall, built during Spanish rule).
  • See the Argentine National Congress Building, located at the other end of Avenida de Mayo.
  • Visit the famous Teatro Colón, Columbus Theatre - a world-famous opera house that has hosted many top artists and musicians in the opera world.
  • Lunch on your own.
  • Head to one of Buenos Aires's barrios, the La Boca neighborhood, many of whose earliest settlers came from Genoa, Italy. Walk the Caminito, a pedestrian street well known for its colorful local architecture as well as being a hub for local tango clubs and street performers.
  • Stroll the historic district of San Telmo, the oldest barrio in Buenos Aires and enjoy the antiquing at Plaza Dorrego's, a Sunday market.
  • Return to the hotel for dinner on your own.

Day Nine
Monday - Being Jewish in Buenos Aires

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Da'at Encounter: Dialogue with Rabbi Sergio Bergman - The Realities of Living in Argentina.
  • Barrio Once, the Lower East Side of Buenos Aires, it was once home to Russian, Moroccan and Syrian Jews who in the early 20th century made the gritty, bustling neighborhood their home.
  • Guided visit to the Jewish Museum at The Libertad Synagogue, the Grand Synagogue of Buenos Aires. Learn about the history of Jewish immigration to Argentina as well as the current situation of the Argentinean Jewish community.
  • Visit the new Jewish Community Center (AMIA) and the Agam Memorial, which stands outside and is dedicated to the 89 victims killed in the 1994 terrorist bombing.
  • Lunch at the El Tortoni Café - founded in 1858, it is the oldest café in the country.
  • MALBA - the Museum of Latin American Art.
  • Transfer to Aeroparque for flight to San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina.
  • Arrival in Bariloche, and transfer to the hotel/resort.
  • Check into the hotel and enjoy being in the foothills of the Andes Mountains, in an area often known locally as ‘Switzerland.'

Day Ten
Tuesday - Bariloche

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Relax, explore, enjoy - hike, bike and walk the resort's extensive grounds and gorgeous vistas overlooking snow-capped mountains and pristine lakes or just relax at the pool or spa.
  • Take a self-guided tour of Nahuel Haupi National Park with 360-degree views of the Andes Mountain range and the lake below. Stroll through Bariloche, the largest city in the region and be sure to taste the famed local chocolates.
  • Dinner on your own.

Day Eleven
Wednesday - Lakes and Mountains

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Early morning departure - catamaran cruise on the Blest arm of the Nahuel Huapi Lake.
  • Bus to Puerto Alegre along the Frías River - take a short sail on Frías Lake with a view of Cerra Tronador - the highest mountain in the Andes range with peaks in both Chile and Argentina, it was once an active volcano.
  • Arrive at Puerto Frías, clear Argentine customs and proceed by bus through lush Andean vegetation to the Vicente Pérez Rosales entering Chile at Peulla.
  • Lunch on your own in Peulla, Chile.
  • Board the Lagos Andinos Catamaran and cross the waters of the Todos Los Santos Lake. View Mount Puntiagudo and the impressive Osorno volcano.
  • Arrive in Petrohué River and visit the nearby rapids - an impressive rush of water over volcanic rock.
  • Continue to Puerto Varas on the shores of LLanquihue Lake. Originally settled in 1854 by German-speaking Europeans who were invited to homestead in the local area, enjoy the local German-influenced cuisine and beautiful lake views.
  • Check into your hotel.
  • Dinner on your own.

Overnight: Cabañas del Lago Hotel, Puerto Varas, Chile


Day Twelve
Thursday - Puerto Varas and Puerto Montt

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Puerto Varas - drive to the town's main square, complete with gardens and monument honoring Vicente Pérez Rosales - the region's founding father.
  • Puerto Montt - a seaport located on the northern shore of the Seno de Reloncavi and the fastest growing city in southern Chile. Take a quick tour of the central square and its cathedral, the oldest building in the region. Stop for a panoramic view of the city, Tenglo Island and the Tenglo Channel. Visit Angelmo, the traditional fish market in Puerto Montt's bustling port.
  • Transfer to the Puerto Montt airport.
  • Fly from the Patagonian port city of Puerto Montt to Santiago.
  • Transfer to your hotel and check in.
  • Dinner at the hotel.

Day Thirteen
Friday - Santiago, Chile

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Have a day at the races at Club Hipico, Chile's oldest racetrack and a stop at Cerro San Cristobal for a beautiful view of the city. 
  • Take in the view from the top of Cerro San Cristobal rising almost 1,000 feet above the top of the city.
  • Stop at the central square of the city, the Plaza de Armas, surrounded by older 18th and 19th century buildings alongside newer and larger buildings, many in the neo-classical style. Like many cities in Chile, periodic earthquakes destroyed many of Santiago's historic buildings.
  • El Mundo del Vino - taste some of Chile's much vaunted and enjoyed wines.
  • Choose between a visit to the pre-Columbian Art Museum or the Circulo Israelita Synagogue. Serving the local Ashkenazi community that numbers approximately 1,000 families, Circulo Israelita is Santiago's main synagogue and has a beautiful interior with magnificent stained glass windows.
  • Explore Santiago for the rest of the day.
  • Da'at Encounter: Friday evening Shabbat services (optional), followed by dinner at a local restaurant with representatives of the Santiago Jewish community.


Day Fourteen
Saturday - Santiago, Chile

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Explore Santiago on your own - enjoy the sidewalk café's, specialty stores and boutiques or just rest and relax.
  • Transfer to the airport for flight home. (Airport transfers included. Please allow a minimum of three hours for check in.)
  • Fly home anytime.


Day Fifteen
Sunday - Return

  • Arrive in the U.S.

Need to Know

  • Tour prices are per person in U.S. dollars. All hotel accommodations, motor coach transportation, special dinners, sightseeing, admissions, luggage handling and the services of local guides, drivers, and the Expedition Educator are included.
  • Hotel Accommodations: The tour price includes all hotel accommodations, in hotel rooms with private baths. Our standard is to provide the best available hotels while considering value. Although the level of the accommodations may differ slightly from hotel to hotel, we are committed to your comfort. Two-bed rooms are reserved in most hotels. Triples are two-bed rooms with a rollaway cot where available and are not recommended when considering the comfort of those in the room. King-size beds are not available in most hotels; what is considered king-size usually consists of two single beds pushed together and made up separately, but with one headboard. Some two-bed rooms may have two twin - not full- or queen-size - beds.
  • Meals are included as specified in the itinerary.
  • Expedition Educator: All trips are conducted by our Expedition Educators or local guides who remain with the group throughout the tour.
  • Gratuities Included: All gratuities for restaurant and hotel staff.
  • Luggage Responsibility: All tour packages allow one piece of luggage per person and one carry-on bag. Excess luggage will be subject to charge of up to $100 per piece. The Travel Agent and/or Tour Operator shall not be held responsible for any damage to or loss of luggage/personal items. All damage/loss must be reported at time of incident and documented in writing by local authorities for submission to your insurance company.


Not Included


  • Airfare to the tour departure point and from the tour ending point is not included. Airfare may be purchased from us for travel originating in the United States. Please see Flights tab in the right-side toolbar.
  • Personal Expenses: All personal expenses such as: laundry, valet service, cables, telephone calls and postage are not included.
  • Guide and Driver Gratuities:
    • 4 seater - $70  (i.e. 2 pax) - per day
    • 7 seater - $90 (i.e. 3-5 pax) - per day
    • 10 seater - $110 (i.e. 5-7 pax) - per day
    • 10-19 passengers: Guide $10, driver $5 - per participant per day
    • 20 passengers and more: Guide $8, driver $4 - per participant per day

  • Airline Security Measures: In the U.S., you must provide identification in the form of a passport at the time of airport check-in for travel to international destinations. Your passport name must match the name on your tour reservation and airline ticket or you may be denied boarding.
  • If you are traveling from an airport outside the jurisdiction of the U.S, you will need to determine what travel documentation and identification is required for that particular airport.
  • Due to heightened security regulations, certain items such as a metal nail file, pocketknife, cigarette lighter or tweezers, and some liquid, gel, or aerosol items may not be permitted in your carry-on luggage. Please call your airline prior to departure to obtain current information on non-permissible carry-on items and recommended airport check-in times. You may also wish to visit the Transportation Security Administration website at www.tsa.gov to obtain more information on acceptable identity documentation and prohibited luggage items.
  • Holidays and Museum Closures - Museum visits and personal shopping time may be disrupted due to unforeseen circumstances or the many religious, state and local holidays locally observed in the destinations being visited.
  • Photography During Tours: We will occasionally use photographs taken by fellow guests or your trip director for promotional purposes. If you prefer that your photo not be used in any marketing activities, please notify us at the start of your tour.
