13-Day Best of Istanbul and Israel |
|
|
|
Explore Ottoman palaces, harems, historic and still
active synagogues, romantic alleyways and side streets dating back centuries.
Return to the time of the Sultans and Pashas at area museums. Explore Jewish
life in modern-day Turkey, home to more than 25,000 Jews, most of Sephardic
origin, many of who arrived in the area in the 16th century during the time of
the Spanish Inquisition. Consider the challenges of being a Turkish Jew in an
Islamic, albeit secular, democratic republic. And then arrive in Israel to
discover the joys and nuances of life in a modern Jewish country steeped in
history, tradition and complex realities.
