Sea Sports

Any Israel tour will offer glimpses of sunny beaches and awe-inspiring views of the Mediterranean Sea – the colors shifting from vivid aquamarine to deep emerald. From the impressive rock formations at Rosh Hanikra near Israel’s border with Lebanon, to Eilat’s sandy beaches along the Red Sea, you’ll be inspired to jump in the water during much of your trip.

Given the warm sea temperatures for much of the year, Israel is a swimmer's and water sports-lover paradise. Water lovers can sea kayak near Tel Aviv, sail from Herzliya, canoe in Lake Kinneret or the Mediterranean, scuba dive off of Eilat’s coastline in the Gulf of Aqaba or surf the coastline from top to bottom, especially in the winter when the waves are at their most active.

Israel has also become a nation to watch in windsurfing, following Gal Fridman’s successes both internationally in European competitions and in both the 1996 and 2004 Olympic Games, where he medaled both times, including a 2004 Gold, a first for Israel. Shachar Zubari of Eilat followed in Fridman’s footsteps, winning a bronze medal in the 2009 Games in Beijing.

Be sure to enjoy a day at the beach – play some matkot, Israel’s beachside racquetball, build a sand castle or grab a boogie board for some exhilarating body surfing.
