Sunday. Arrival in Israel. Group meets at Dan Panorama Hotel: Welcome Dinner
with Israel Movement for Progressive Judaism (IMPJ) leaders. (D) JERUSALEM
Monday. Breakfast at the hotel. Morning at HUC: Shiurim (Study) with faculty of Hebrew Union College.
Lunch and Learn with HUC rabbinical and cantorial students from USA and Israel
Orientation to issues of "Resiliency of the Soul" in Israel: Afternoon course at Herzog Center for Psycho-trauma to learn about advances in the work in healing those suffering from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and efforts to build resiliency to protect those living in troubled times.
Late afternoon at Jerusalem Open House, the major
Center for GLBT programming in Israel where we will learn about the approaches and challenges in Israeli society in providing a welcoming and supportive community.
Dinner: On own. "open house" is on Ben Yehudah St., a pedestrian only shopping plaza. (B) JERUSALEM
Tuesday. Breakfast at the hotel.
Scenic travel by bus to Ben Gurion University in Beer Sheva, where we will be hosted by top researchers of programs dealing with Aging Issues and Medical Technology/Bioethics Issues.
Lunch on campus.
Late afternoon: Dinner and information exchange with representatives (congregants and lay leaders) of liberal IMPJ Congregations in southern Israel (Naama Dafni to Coordinate).
Evening bus back to Jerusalem. (B) JERUSALEM
Wednesday. Breakfast at the hotel. Free Day. Opportunity to shop, be on you own for a day in Jerusalem to visit friends, sight see, etc.
Special Elective Free Day Programs:
a) Herzog Center intensive training for mental health professionals for responding to trauma and prevention of and treatment of PTSD;
b) Health and Wellness Program (TBD);
c) Shiurim (study) on Progressive Judaism. (B) JERUSALEM
Thursday. Breakfast at the hotel. Morning and Lunch: Joint Distribution Committee HQ in
Jerusalem: Orientation to Issues regarding Disabilities.
Program coordinated by Tamara Barnea who heads Disability programs for Israel in JDC. Since 1914, the JDC, Inc.has served the needs of Jews throughout the world, by sponsoring programs of relief, rescue, and renewal as they help Israel address its most urgent social challenges.
Afternoon/ Early Evening bus trip to Haifa followed by dinner and conversation with IMPJ representatives in north of Israel. Return to Jerusalem. (B) JERUSALEM
Friday. Breakfast at the hotel. Morning: 9.00-Noon: JFC annual meeting at Dan Panorama.
Lunch: on own.
Afternoon: Begin JFC-IMPJ Shabbaton: Shabbat gathering with congregation Bet Shmuel at HUC.
Evening: Group "tiyul" to Kabbalat Shabbat at Kol Ha'n'shama Shabbat dinner group excursion at Bet Shmuel after services. (B,D) JERUSALEM
Saturday. Breakfast at the hotel. Morning: Shabbat morning worship together with Shabbaton participants at Bet Shmuel.
Lunch thru afternoon: JFC - IMPJ Shabbaton and leadership Exchange: Bringing Caring Community to our Congregations by sharing issues, strategies and developing relationships with IMPJ congregations.
Late afternoon: Havdalah and Shalom for Shabbaton.
Early Evening: Closing dinner for JFC group (early enough to allow those who go back to N. America on Sat. night flight to get to airport. Those leaving Sunday may return to hotel. (B,D) JERUSALEM
